INNOVATIVE LESSON PLAN REPORT -2
THE MERCHANT OF VENICE
- WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE
INTRODUCTION
Lesson Plan No: 30
This
report is mainly to discuss about the innovative lesson plan which was taken at
St. Mary’s H.S.S, Pattom as part of the internship in the fourth semester.
Innovative work is defined as “the process of making changes to something
established by introducing “something new”. Innovative work helps a teacher to
teach lesson easily. The role of innovative work is very important in English
language teaching. In order to teach a lesson innovatively, the teacher must
use a lot of pictures, games, models and songs. In teaching learning process
the role of innovative work is very important. It makes the class interesting
and effective. So, in English language education the role of innovative work is
very helpful and pivotal. The present innovative work is an attempt to recall
the various images depicted in the poem by students alone. It is
prepared based on the chapter ‘My Grandmother’s House’ by Kamala Surayya.
This type of lesson plan inspires the learner in
many aspect .it is through innovative lesson template people will get a good
knowledge of the content and they develop a better retention power. Without
innovation students will lose attention and teaching will lose its value. As
teachers we need to make our students passionate and eager to learn more and
that’s where innovation interferes.
IMPORTANCE OF INNOVATIVE TEACHING
· It attracts the student’s attention in the
classroom.
· It makes them interested in subject and eager to
learn more.
· It stimulates their minds.
· It makes them understand the subject rather than
just memorizing it.
· It makes them creative and productive.
This
innovative lesson plan is prepared and implemented by me to teach eighth
standard students at St. Mary’s school, Pattom. This innovation mainly focused
to evoke different skills in learner and how it inspires them to become more
effective and efficient in their outlook. Successful in experimenting and
implementing new teaching approach, it can widen the knowledge of the students.
Moreover it would also evoke real life experience.

PURPOSE OF THE WORK
As part
of teaching practice session two, I opted an innovative work based on the chapter
‘The Merchant of Venice’. This lesson has enough scope to promote student’s
creative writing and critical thinking.
PLAN OF ACTION
An
innovative lesson plan was prepared on the chapter ‘MY GRANDMOTHER’S HOUSE’
from the unit V (SHARE AND CARE). Before starting the lesson the innovative
model was prepared before the students. Innovative model was prepared to recall
the important themes and various images narrated in the poem. It was
colorfully and systematically arranged. Catching wordings of the poem is
included in the working innovative model.
METHODLOGY
One of the
biggest challenges that teachers face is to find ways to succeed with different
types of learners, not just those with whom they have natural affinity. U as
teachers we have to use different kind of teaching methodologies and strategies
that promote the maximum degree of success for students of all types. There are
different kinds of learners such as visual, auditory, reading/ writing and
kinesthetic, Tactile and global. Each learning type responds best to a
different method of teaching.
v Visual
learners learn best by looking. They respond well to colourful pictures and
images
v Auditory
learners learn best by listening. They work well with spoken instructions and
learn quickly by listening to stories and songs.
v Tactile learners learn physically by touching and
manipulating objects.
v Kinesthetic learners learn physically moving
v Analytic
learners focus on the details of language global learner’s focus on the whole
picture and do not care so much about specific details.
INNOVATIVE WORKING MODEL (The Merchant of Venice)
So in this innovative work, all the learners have
enough scope. It is designed and prepared to cater the needs of all the
learners. They can easily grasp the themes and imagery from the innovative
model. In the initial stage teachers gives a short description about the poem.
After the necessary instruction teachers displays the innovative model to
transact the content effectively. So it is appealing to all the learners and at
the same time it invites the attention and taste of all the learners. Each type
of learner has specific role to perform. It creates interest to learners. It
helps them to have better retention.
