INNOVATIVE LESSON PLAN REPORT -2

THE MERCHANT OF VENICE
-         WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

 INTRODUCTION

            This report is mainly to discuss about the innovative lesson plan which was taken at St. Mary’s H.S.S, Pattom as part of the internship in the fourth semester. Innovative work is defined as “the process of making changes to something established by introducing “something new”. Innovative work helps a teacher to teach lesson easily. The role of innovative work is very important in English language teaching. In order to teach a lesson innovatively, the teacher must use a lot of pictures, games, models and songs. In teaching learning process the role of innovative work is very important. It makes the class interesting and effective. So, in English language education the role of innovative work is very helpful and pivotal. The present innovative work is an attempt to recall the various images depicted in the poem by students alone.  It is prepared based on the chapter ‘My Grandmother’s House’ by Kamala Surayya.
This type of lesson plan inspires the learner in many aspect .it is through innovative lesson template people will get a good knowledge of the content and they develop a better retention power. Without innovation students will lose attention and teaching will lose its value. As teachers we need to make our students passionate and eager to learn more and that’s where innovation interferes.

IMPORTANCE OF INNOVATIVE TEACHING

·        It attracts the student’s attention in the classroom.
·        It makes them interested in subject and eager to learn more.
·        It stimulates their minds.
·        It makes them understand the subject rather than just memorizing it.
·        It makes them creative and productive.
            This innovative lesson plan is prepared and implemented by me to teach eighth standard students at St. Mary’s school, Pattom. This innovation mainly focused to evoke different skills in learner and how it inspires them to become more effective and efficient in their outlook. Successful in experimenting and implementing new teaching approach, it can widen the knowledge of the students. Moreover it would also evoke real life experience.

OBJECTIVES

Ø  To help the students to read the poem with proper stress and intonation
Ø  Toanalyse the poem with proper stress and intonation.
Ø  Toanalyse poetry and prose based on their theme and structure.
Ø  To develop four language skills among students (LSRW).
Ø  To help students to identify and poetic devices in the text.
Ø  To develop creative and productive skills among students.

PURPOSE OF THE WORK

 As part of teaching practice session two, I opted an innovative work based on the chapter ‘The Merchant of Venice’. This lesson has enough scope to promote student’s creative writing and critical thinking.

PLAN OF ACTION

 An innovative lesson plan was prepared on the chapter ‘MY GRANDMOTHER’S HOUSE’ from the unit V (SHARE AND CARE). Before starting the lesson the innovative model was prepared before the students. Innovative model was prepared to recall the important themes and various images narrated in the poem.  It was colorfully and systematically arranged. Catching wordings of the poem is included in the working innovative model.

METHODLOGY

One of the biggest challenges that teachers face is to find ways to succeed with different types of learners, not just those with whom they have natural affinity. U as teachers we have to use different kind of teaching methodologies and strategies that promote the maximum degree of success for students of all types. There are different kinds of learners such as visual, auditory, reading/ writing and kinesthetic, Tactile and global. Each learning type responds best to a different method of teaching.
v  Visual learners learn best by looking. They respond well to colourful pictures and images
v Auditory learners learn best by listening. They work well with spoken instructions and learn quickly by listening to stories and songs.
v Tactile learners learn physically by touching and manipulating objects.
v Kinesthetic learners learn physically moving
v Analytic learners focus on the details of language global learner’s focus on the whole picture and do not care so much about specific details.

INNOVATIVE WORKING MODEL (The Merchant of Venice)

So in this innovative work, all the learners have enough scope. It is designed and prepared to cater the needs of all the learners. They can easily grasp the themes and imagery from the innovative model. In the initial stage teachers gives a short description about the poem. After the necessary instruction teachers displays the innovative model to transact the content effectively. So it is appealing to all the learners and at the same time it invites the attention and taste of all the learners. Each type of learner has specific role to perform. It creates interest to learners. It helps them to have better retention.

FINDINGS

Being innovative is about looking beyond what we do currently. It is identifying the great idea of tomorrow and putting them in to practice. It is a way finding out the different possibility and widening the horizon of current knowledge. Using this innovative lesson plan, it is very clear that the learners are very attentive and are very cooperative to the situation in the classroom environment. Student responded very well to all the discoursed that were conducted in the class.

CONCLUSION


Innovative lesson plan was really a great success. It had accomplished all levels of learning outcome. Being innovative is about looking beyond what we do currently. The important element of this lesson had been transacted to different types of learners in the class. It caters the needs of all the learners.

So, in English language education the role of innovative work is very helpful and pivotal. The present innovative work is an attempt to make a textbook by dramatizing the events in the lesson ‘The Merchant of Venice’ by William Shakespeare.
This type of lesson plan evoke the learner in many aspect .it is through innovative lesson template people will get a good knowledge of the content and they develop a better retention power. Without innovation students will lose attention and teaching will lose its value. As teachers we need to make our students passionate and eager to learn more and that’s where innovation interferes.

This innovative model is prepared to cater the needs of all the learners. This lesson has enough scope to promote student’s creative writing.

PLAN OF ACTION

 An innovative lesson plan was prepared on the chapter ‘The Merchant of Venice’ from the unit V (Share and Care). Before starting the lesson the innovative model was prepared before the students. Innovative model was prepared based on the story line. All the characters in the story were included in that working model. It was colorfully and gracefully arranged.

Then teachers exhibits catching dialogue from the story and ask them to identify the character. It creates interest to learners. It helps them to have better retention.
